FAQs
About Maths Camps
How do pupils get a place at Maths Camps?
Maths camps are for Axiom Maths circle pupils in Years 9 and 10. Pupils are nominated by their Axiom Maths mentors based on actively participating in an Axiom Maths circle, showing potential to study maths at university and being happy to take on challenging maths ideas and problems.
What happens at Maths Camps?
Pupils work on challenging problems unlike those they encounter at school, with time to think deeply, try out ideas and work together. Through talks and conversations with mathematicians, they discover where maths can take them and explore new possibilities for their own futures. Together, pupils and staff form a mathematical community, united by a shared enthusiasm for maths and the enjoyment of exploring it together.
How do pupils get assigned to a Maths Camps venue?
For Year 9 pupils, mentors select the venue most convenient to their pupils (most likely based on geography) when they register the school’s interest.
The Year 10 Maths Camp will take place at Churchill College, Cambridge.
What support is available for pupils during the camp?
Maths Camps are supported by experienced delivery and pastoral teams who are there to help pupils throughout their stay.
What if my school does not have an Axiom Maths circle?
If your school would like to join Axiom Maths, please express interest via the Axiom Maths website. Only schools current in the Axiom Maths programme can nominate pupils for Maths Camps.
Costs, travel and safeguarding
What is included in a fully funded camp?
Accommodation, meals, refreshments and all camp materials are provided on-site at each venue at no cost to the pupil or their family, so pupils can focus on the maths and making friends. Pupils do not need to bring food or money to camp.
How will pupil travel be organised?
We are unable to arrange individual transport for pupils. We need mentors to help parents and carers to plan their child’s travel to and from the camps.
- Role of parents and carers: to plan and arrange travel to and from the camp
- Role of mentor: to help parents and carers to arrange pupil travel, including – if needed – to help coordinate so pupils from the same school can travel together
- Our support:
- Introduce schools near each other to help coordinate shared travel arrangements if desired
- Travel bursaries: to help pupils who would otherwise be unable to afford to attend a maths camp. We ask mentors to work with parents and carers to coordinate travel plans and identify low-cost solutions for pupils to travel to-and-from the camp. See below FAQ Will pupil travel cost be covered?
Will pupil travel costs be covered?
These camps are fully funded except for travel costs.
A travel bursary is available to ensure that no child misses out on attending a maths camp due to financial barriers.
As bursaries are limited, we ask mentors to work with parents and carers to coordinate travel plans and identify low-cost solutions for pupils to travel to-and-from the camp.
Mentors will be able to apply for a bursary on behalf of parents and carers where travel costs would otherwise prevent a pupil from attending a Maths Camp.
Who will be responsible for safeguarding and pastoral care at the camp?
Safeguarding and pastoral care will be managed Future Foundations at all camps. Foundations are an award-winning organisation specialising in youth development programmes and has worked with over 100,000 young people and delivered residential and non-residential summer camps for 21 years, including for Maths Camps in 2025 and 2026.
Each camp will have a named Designated Safeguarding Officer and a 24-hour (residential camps) emergency contact number for parents and carers to be able to contact their child. All staff will need an Enhanced DBS check.

For schools and mentors
How many pupils can I select for nomination?
Each school can nominate two current pupils from Year 9 and Year 10 each. Schools can also nominate one additional pupil for our waiting list (three pupils in total from each year group).
Can I choose which Maths Camp venue pupils attend?
For Year 9 pupils, mentors select the venue most convenient to their pupils (most likely based on geography) when they register the school’s interest.
The Year 10 Maths Camp will take place at Churchill College, Cambridge.
Can I nominate a pupil who is not a part of my school’s maths circle?
We won’t be able to accept nominations from pupils not currently active in an Axiom Maths circle at their school or online.
What details are required from schools to nominate pupils, and how will selection be made?
Using our nomination form, you will provide the following details for each student:
- Pupil’s full name, year group and sex
- Preference order for your nominations
- Full name of parent or carer
- Email of parent or carer
An individual school is expected, subject to demand, to receive two places per year group, but a nomination does not guarantee a place. Spaces are limited. We have allocated initial spaces and are reviewing allocations on a rolling basis.
We aim to meet venue preferences but may have to allocate pupils based on demand.
We aim to keep pupils from the same school together at the same camp unless agreed otherwise.
What are the next steps?
- Log in to your school’s Maths Camps account
After you register, you will be invited to login to your school’s Maths Camps account. Here you will find all the information you need about Maths Camps to share with parents/carers and the pupil nomination form. - Request parent/carer consent to nominate their child
Once you have logged in, there will be a template for you to use to inform parents and carers of Maths Camps and the nomination. - Complete the pupil nomination form.
We will review nominations and allocate places and venues on a rolling basis. Using your login, you will be able to track the status of your nominations. - Offers sent out to families
For pupils offered a place, we will contact parents and carers directly via email (with the school in copy) to confirm participation and provide further details. This will include a registration link and a deadline to accept the offer. - Waitlist pupils
Pupils not initially offered a place will be added to our waiting list. We will inform parents and carers via email (with the school in copy).
Are mentors required to attend the camp with pupils?
No, mentors do not need to attend. However, your support is needed in the lead up to the camp to help with coordinating pupil participation, securing consent, coordinating travel and ensuring pupils feel prepared and confident about attending.
Our team will handle all aspects of the camp itself including programme delivery and pastoral care. We will liaise directly with parents and carers prior to the programme and answer any questions they may have.
We will be recruiting for coaching and pastoral staff to join us in paid roles at the maths camps. This is a great opportunity to work with talented pupils, meet like-minded educators, and be part of an inspiring learning environment. Go to our careers page to see our current vacancies.
